New Jersey Again Crushes US Sports Betting Monthly Record With $930M In Wagers

Since the launch of online sports betting in New Jersey, Caesars Entertainment has been noticeably absent from the list of companies with a functioning app. No longer – Caesars released its mobile sports betting app on Sept. 6, becoming the sixth online sports outlet in the Garden State. Its launch coincided with kickoff in the first NFL game of the regular season.
The sportsbook is available for both iOS and Android users. Players can download the app from both the App Store and directly from CaesarsCasino.com.
“Since New Jersey decided to allow mobile sports betting, we have been working diligently to create the most engaging and fun mobile platform which provides users with the ability to place bets on their favorite sporting events,” said Caesars CEO and President Mark Frissora. “This launch further solidifies our investment into this exciting space.”
Frissora went on to say that wagering through the app would allow players to accrue and redeem Total Rewards points. Total Rewards points allow players to purchase accommodations, food, and other experiences at the numerous Caesars properties.
What is the sports betting app like?
In a word, adequate. For players with existing Caesars accounts and/or loyalty to the Caesars brand, the app meets their needs appropriately.
Caesars offers the ability to wager in up to six different types of bets. Those types are the four most common:
- Point spreads
- Moneylines
- Totals
- Futures
There are also one-hour variants of spreads and totals.
The sports available on the app are as follows:
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Boxing
- Football
- Golf
- Hockey
- Mixed martial arts
- Motor racing
- Soccer
- Tennis
Caesars’s published odds appear to be mostly in line with the odds elsewhere. However, an astute bettor might be able to find a few profitable differences.
Technology provider Scientific Games will power the Caesars app. The two companies became partners during this past summer.
Caesars needs to add features to compete in New Jersey
So, venturing into the burgeoning market is a good move for the casino giant. Sports betting handle in July 2018 exceeded $40 million, and the increasing levels of awareness and access in the state will only cause that number to grow.
However, the competition for sports betting market share in New Jersey is also getting stiffer. Caesars enters a market with five other competitors who are hungry to stake their claim.
Caesars’s app design and features lag behind some of those competitors. Competitors like DraftKings, FanDuel, and PlaySugarHouse are offering customers extensive flexibility and variety.
DraftKings and PlaySugarHouse, in particular, have implemented a live ticket system. This feature allows customers to cash out on their open wagers at any time.
This feature effectively makes every bet on those apps an in-game bet. Those companies, and others, also offer quirkier betting options and parlays to appeal to the more risk-tolerant player.
As a result, the newly-launched Caesars product feels like a basic offering, rather than a dynamic opportunity for patrons. Hopefully, Caesars just wanted to get off the ground before football season cranked up, and more features are incoming.
